Letter to My Kid Sister (pt 2)

This post is a sequel to an earlier post Letter to My Kid Sister containing a brother’s tips to his kid sister on life and how to navigate the dating world smoothly and is written by our guest blogger. The tips continue below. Happy reading!

  • Being weird around someone is a way of letting them know that you're actually comfortable with them.
  • Life is too short to stress out over people who don't matter or deserve to be a part of your life.
  • Some people just don't realize what they got, so you have to leave them for a little while just so that they notice a good thing
  • If two people are meant to be together, even if they have to go their separate ways, eventually they'll find their way back together.
  • A true love is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.
  • Just because a person smiles all the time, doesn't mean their life is perfect.
  • DISCIPLINE is just choosing between what you want NOW and want you want MOST.
  • Never look for a man to solve all of your problems. Just find one that doesn't let you face them by yourself.
  • Just because you're lonely doesn't mean you have to FORCE yourself into a relationship.
  • You don't get what you WISH for, you get what you WORK for.
  • If you love someone, fight for them, and don't back down until you realize you've done all you can.
  • When you’re angry, take a deep breath before you speak, because your mouth acts quicker than your brain.
  • Find someone who knows you’re sad just by the change of tone in your voice
  • Be with someone who loves the feature(s) in you that you hate the most
  • You deserve a nice guy who texts you back and buys you flowers, doesn’t kiss other girls behind your back and who makes you laugh and thinks you’re funny.
  • You are a PROCESS, not a PROJECT. Just because you're not finished yet doesn't mean you're not growing. Trust the process
  • The moment you give up is the moment you let someone else win.
  • Everyone you meet will come with baggage, find someone who loves you enough to help you unpack and clean it up.
  • Sometimes you push them away, not because you hate them, but because you want to pull them closer.
  • It's okay to struggle, but it's never okay to give up on yourself.
  • It takes time to develop a great relationship. If you're impatient, that may be the reason why you're single.
  • People lie for two reasons: to keep from hurting someone or to hurt someone on purpose. Either way it’s wrong.
  • One mistake and everyone judges you; forgive quickly so you may be forgiven.
  • When it comes to making a big change in your life, you have to want it more than you fear it.
That’s all I can say for now sis. Don’t just read them; USE THEM. Remember, you’re fearfully and wonderfully made, God’s precious princess. Don’t sell yourself short or settle for less than deserve. Focus on living your life as well as discovering and fulfilling destiny and in the process, the man of your dreams will find you. Whatever happens, never give up on yourself; never give up on God. You know I love you but God loves you more.

Time to Shake Off the Dust

There are many ways dust gets caught up on one’s clothes: when you walk through a dusty area, when you sit on something dusty, or when you fall down. When this happens, you have two options: cry/get sad/lament because what you’re wearing is now marred by dust or dust it off. And you know what, both options require the same amount of energy; actually, it even seems the first option requires more energy. Today, I’m not talking about the natural dust; I’m referring to dust here as a metaphor for everything that stained your life so far in the process of walking down the course of life as well as everything you ever went through. Crying about the dust is not productive; it’s time for you to shake it off. Isaiah 52:2 (one scripture that struck me lately) which says Shake off YOUR dust; rise up, sit enthroned…offers deep insights and useful tips that will change our lives. It actually sums up the process of success in life. Sit back and relax as we draw out the wisdom in it.

Shake of YOUR Dust

Each one of us has gone through different unique circumstances in life that may have stained us in some way. YOUR dust may be different from some other person’s dust but the solution is the same: SHAKE IT OFF! If you do not shake of the hurts, mistakes, addictions, childish nuances etc of the past, they will follow you into your future and become a higher source of embarrassment unto you. If you do not shake of the disappointments you felt when it seemed your prayers were unanswered, they will rob you of the faith you need to receive greater things now. What’s more, no one will shake it off for you; you have to shake of the dust yourself. You’ve lamented and cried about the dust on your life enough.

Rise up

After you’ve shaken off the dust on your life, it’s time to RISE UP. To rise up means “to assume an upright position especially from lying, kneeling, or sitting; toget up from sleep or from one's bed or to return from death”. It’s time for you to rise up from your position of inactivity, lack of creativity, idleness, discouragement, fear of the past repeating itself/fear of the unknown/fear of how the future will turn out. It’s time for you to rise up from death and everything that happened in the past that stole and killed your confidence, your bubbly and kind personality, your faith in God as well as your ability to trust and love again and stand upright on your two feet. It’s time to rise up from being a burden on people and depending on your parents/whoever you’re dating and run the race for your future. The race of life won’t wait for you forever; just like the Olympics has a specific time, the race of your life has a specific time and IT IS NOW when you’re young, vibrant and strong.

Sit Enthroned

To get to the point where you eventually sit enthroned as a king/queen/celebrity in life, you must shake of the dust on your life and rise up. Talk is cheap; saying I wanna be this or that won’t cut it except you do what needs to be done. If you do not shake off the dust on your life, it will rob you of the confidence you need to advance. What’s more, you will miss out of the race of life and end up a failure, still depending on people (instead of become a blessing), with a bag full of regrets and had-I-knowns. Thrones are prepared for people who are destined for the position and have undergone the processes necessary to make them eligible for it. Life celebrates those who rise up; not those who want to be celebrated. Sitting on the throne also implies coming to a place where you begin to eat the fruit of your labour/ the fruit of your rising up and the point where you become an object of reference/an authority figure.

So you see, the process of success in life looks like this:
Shake of the dust   -    Rise up    -      Sit Enthroned

Read, think deeply about what you read and act; your time starts now. Have a wonderful weekend.

Creating the Change You Seek

The power of the spoken word is one of life’s greatest mysteries. All that you will ever be or accomplish hinges on how you choose to govern what comes out of your mouth. By what you allow to occupy your mind and mouth, you can either lift your life to great heights of success or send it plummeting into realms of failure, sadness, and discontentment. This is why Proverbs 23:7 tells us “for as he thinks in his heart, so is he” and urges us in Proverbs 4:23 “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life”. Matt 12:34-35 even says more using these words: “For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What occupies your mind determines what you predominantly end up saying.

Because the law of cause and effect is continually at work, there is always an inner cause for every outer effect. Your outer world is a direct result of your inner world. Every circumstance in life is a result of a words and choices—and every choice is the result of a thought. All those things that fill your mind affect, shape and determine what happens in your life. Your thoughts provide the fuel for your words, and your words provide the fuel for your world. It is therefore imperative that you understand and be conscious of the nature of what you are saying. Are you saying anything you feel like, simply because you feel like saying it or you want to “say your mind”? Or are you carefully picking out what you say, knowing that what you say becomes what you see in your life? We would do well to heed the advice of Epictetus, an ancient Stoic philosopher, who once said: “First learn the meaning of what you say, and then speak” and that of Hosea, the prophetic sage of old, who said “For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind” (Hosea 8:7).
Hello there! You must take responsibility for what you experience in life. Our lives are the sum total of every word we ever spoke, every choice we’ve ever made, and the things we let happen. If you do not like where you are, you are only one thought, one word, one choice and once action away from turning toward the life you desire. It starts with becoming a master of your thoughts. Watch what you think and sift your thought; filter out anything that you do not want to show up in your future, and focus only on thinking what you truly desire. God wired your thoughts to be powerful so you would be equipped to overcome every obstacle. He fashioned you to create, innovate, strategize, and succeed—and just to be sure, He put His own divine thoughts and nature within you. Put away those negative thoughts and random statements you’re so used to making. Take responsibility for the change you so desire by making sure your thoughts, words, choices and actions align only with the good things you desire which God has already made provision for in his word. Have a lovely weekend.
