HOW TO BE FRUSTRATED
Oops… did
she just say that? Oh yes I did.
Most of
the times, we aren’t aware of our thought patterns so we think about stuff that
end up frustrating us and ruining our day. Frustration triggers depression and eventually
leads to loss of faith. (I’m quite guilty of this myself…don’t tell anyone).
The
pattern looks like this: you think of something that gets you frustrated and
depressed. Later, you begin to wonder why you’re feeling depressed because you’ve
long forgotten what you thought about. So I thought: “maybe if we exposed how
to be frustrated, we would win this battle of the mind”? And that’s how I landed
on this post. Long story short, let’s dive into the ways to get frustrated
because when we know them, we’ll be able to decipher how not to get frustrated,
right?
1)
THINK OF
THE PAST
Oh yes!
If you want to be frustrated, think of the past 24/7. Think about those who
hurt and cheated on you. Think about the mistakes you made. Think about the
losses you incurred. Think about those hurtful things mum and dad did to you. I
guarantee you, by the time you’re done; you’ll be 100% miserable.
2)
THINK
ABOUT PROBLEMS AND FEARS
Aha! Think
about the problems you’re facing. Think about those fears you have. Think about
the what-ifs….what if I never find a man to love me? What if I get sick tomorrow,
who’ll take care of me? How am I going to settle this dept? Maybe God doesn’t
love me anymore? Does God really exist? What if my boy friend is cheating on
me? Just think about it all and see how confused, frustrated and depressed you
become.
3)
THINK
ABOUT YOUR FLAWS AND INADEQUACIES
Think
about the fact that you're not tall enough, slim enough, pretty enough or
financially buoyant enough. Think about the fact that you got short hair, a big
nose, thick lips, a flat bum, a flat chest, you name it. Think about the fact
that you’re not good at maths (or whatever subject/thing), you don’t have lots
of friends, blah blah. You’ll surely be depressed in no time.
4)
THINK
ABOUT THINGS YOU CAN’T CHANGE OR CONTROL
When I was
much younger, I used to play the “I wish…” game and it always left me feeling
frustrated. I wish I was fairer….i wish dad was richer….I wish I lived in a
better neighbourhood….you see how the game goes? These were things I had no
control over; things I couldn’t change. And the outcome was always the same…frustration.
5)
THINK
ABOUT THOSE WHO SEEM TO HAVE IT BETTER THAN YOU DO
Think
about those peers of yours who’re now married, got a better paying job, got
admission into one school or the other. Just think about those friends who
currently have all you ever dreamed of, think about how they’re just “enjoying
themselves” and how “it’s not just fair” that you don’t have these things and
you’ll land at the place called frustration zone.
There! Now
you obviously know how to be frustrated. What about how not to be frustrated? Just
avoid thinking about these things and do what Phillipians 4:8 says: …whatsoever things are pure….lovely…of good
report…think on these things.
Xoxo.
