EYE OPENERS

Your perception of God will determine your disposition to life. Those who perceive God outside of his word will have a wrong perception of him, this is because He (God) is everything his word says he is; “… and the word was God”. Trying to understand God in the sense realm will only lead to frustration and dissatisfaction. I have keenly observed that 90% or more of God fearing ladies of whom I have gotten in contact with have suffered depression and heartbreak at some point in their lives and I have found out that they do so because they have a wrong perception about who God is to them and who they are to God. Having the right perception of who God is to you and who you are to God, will bring you out of the dungeon of depression, heartbreak, and frustration in life. It’s time to get your confidence back and experience the joy of your salvation! This column is designed to open your eyes to the truth about God’s word as it relates to you so that you can live the life God has prepared for you – THE ABUNDANT LIFE. As we move from blogpost to blogpost, I trust that your life will be greatly refreshed in Jesus name.

God is not angry with you

“So now I have sworn not to be angry with YOU, never to rebuke YOU again. Though the mountain be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love FOR YOU will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed says the Lord who has compassion ON YOU”. Isa.54:9

What a word from the very mouth of God! I decided to put those words “YOU” in uppercase so you could see that this scripture was not written to some folks in Jupiter but for you! You see dearly beloved, in order to bring you to a point of faith, God had to swear to you! I tell you that God is not angry with you. Stop beating yourself! Stop hurting yourself! Stop hurting others!

To think or say that God is angry with you or  that he is punishing you for your sins or that he is keeping record of your mistakes, is to call God a liar! And that is a grave sin! Beloved, God does not chasten his children with a rod of condemnation; rather, he draws them near with his Love.

“I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remember your sins no more”.  Isa.43:26

Did you read that? He didn’t cover your transgressions up! He blotted them out! Come on! He has no record of your sins anymore! He did this for his own sake; he is just in love with you! He provided a solution to the sin problem by redeeming your past, present and future wrong in the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross of Calvary.

Quickly confess those four things the Lord has done for you in the above passages:
  • The Lord is not angry with me!
  • The lord will not rebuke me!
  • His unfailing love for me will not be shaking!
  • He has compassion on me!
  •  He has blot out my transgressions!
  • My sins, he will remember no more!

You can go ahead to make it your daily confession till it settles in your spirit, soul and body.

This is the true nature of your father who art in heaven! He is a loving father! He might be a judge to the world; he is a father to you! Hallelujah!!!! Now see this:

“in him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace…”

Did you see that? God is not mad with you! In fact, he is actually mad about you! And he has taken every hindrance that will deny you fellowship with him away so as to give you the freedom to love and serve him without any fear or doubt.

If you are in Him, see what he says you have: Redemption! Forgiveness of sins! This is what you have! It is not as though you are still expecting to have it, you already have it! It’s yours for the getting! If you notice, he said the forgiveness of sins not sin. What does that suggest? It suggest that he has made provision for the forgiveness of the sins yet uncommitted. Does that mean that God is expecting you to sin? No! He detests it! But he made this provision to show you the extent of his love. Amen!

You might have missed it big time and might even be thinking that forgiveness is far-fetched; let me joyfully announce to you that you don’t even need to go searching for forgiveness, you already have it! It’s been credited to your account over 2000 years ago! You have what God says you have! Hallelujah!

8 Reasons Why You’re Losing Friends Fast

Hey there, I trust you’re having a beautiful week. I’m having a favour-filled week, all thanks to God’s favour.

There is no smoke without fire; every occurrence you see on the surface is triggered by something. Today, I’ll like to talk about things that make it difficult for a person to retain friends. It’s easy to put the blame on every other person and claim that they’re juts haters. But, a little soul searching may reveal that you have a hand in it. Read this with an open and sincere heart and you’ll get the best out of it.

1 - You can’t keep a secret
Yep! This is one of the major reasons why a person loses friends. Friendship requires you to be trustworthy and to be a friend one can easily confide in. Whether or not your friend tells you not to disclose his/her words to others, discretion should let you know that sensitive matters about your friend should remain a secret. It should not be disclosed or used as example when teaching or preaching. So, when you have a habit of making your friends personal matters public news/announcement in the name of “gisting” or you have a habit of exposing your friend’s secret when you’re having a misunderstanding, you earn yourself the reputation of CNN and backbiter. With time, word soon spreads around that you’re not trustworthy and even though you keep making new friends, you’ll keep losing them. Instead of looking for new friends, work on this aspect of yourself first.

2 - You’re too judgemental and critical
It’s good to speak the truth in love. But when you’re excessively critical and fond of dishing out sarcastic remarks to your friends in public or private, you make yourself a thorn in their flesh and you know, nobody loves to have a romance with thorns. Friends seek comfort in each other; the world out there is already filled with harshness, your friends do not need another dose of harshness from you. You’re not a judge; you’re a friend – there is a difference between both. Most of it lies in your manner of approach. Friendship is not just about being honest, it’s about being tactful and speaking the truth in love.

3 - You use people
People are not fools; they may act like fools, but eventually the reality hits them someday and they get the real picture. Everyone wants to be accepted and loved for who they are. That is why things are meant to be used and people are meant to be cherished and appreciated. So, if you’re fond of reaching out to the people in your life only because of what you can gain from them and you’re never available for them either, you’re actually using people. If you only act nice and contact people when you want to get something from them, you’re actually a user of men. If you make using people your comfort zone, you will eventually lose a lot of quality people from your life.

4 - You’re too clingy
When you can’t stay on your own and must be in the company of people, you’re clingy. And when you’re too clingy, you’re like a crab that clings to everyone it comes in contact with to the extent of causing discomfort. Being clingy may be tolerable from children but as we grow older, it is expected that you should have a life of your own and be able to give your friends the breathing space to live their own lives too. As much as you want them to hang out with you, you need to understand that they cannot be at your beck and call all the time, even though they love you. It is immaturity to expect them to be available for you always. You must learn how to accept people and take their availability to you as their tight schedule permits.
5 - You’re a liability
Do I need to explain this??? I think it’s self-explanatory. In simple words, no one wants a parasite for a friend – someone who drains them dry and cannot be useful to them in anyway. Your friends are not ATMs you can keep withdrawing from daily. You have to make yourself a blessing and an asset too.

6 - You’re envious and competitive
Friends are supposed to be supportive of each other, not envious and competitive. You mustn’t have everything your friend has. Or are you twins??? The most dangerous friend anyone can have is someone who is envious and competitive; someone one who wants to have what they have at any cost. Both character traits open the door to negative influence and can turn a friend into a foe eventually. It’s okay to learn from or be inspired by your friend’s achievements. But when you exhibit envy and compare yourself with / compete with your friend, you are a recipe for disaster waiting to happen and any wise + experienced person will immediately start avoiding you.

7 - You’re full of complaints and negativity
Ha!!! There is nothing that saps the life out of you like having negative people and complainers in your life. When you’re trying to build up your faith and maintain a positive attitude, like a pin prick on a balloon, they puncture your faith. They empty their negative energy on you via complaints and put too much excess baggage on your life. Even the Lord God could not put up with the continuous complaints, murmurings and the negative attitude of the Israelites in the wilderness. These two patterns of behavior will not only affect your friendships and relationships, they will also cut you off from the goodness of God because. See (as surely as I heard you say, so will I do unto you) for more details.

8 - You’re no longer compatible
One of my old friends used to say “twenty friends can’t play together for twenty years”. What that means is that friendships don’t always last forever, even if you guys make a vow that you will stay friends forever. Though you may not quarrel, you may eventually start drifting apart due to incompatibility (both of you now have a different outlook on life as well as different goals), tight schedules, increasing responsibilities or distance. If this happens, don’t take it too personally – it’s not the end of the world. Just open your heart to the new people around you and build new friendships.

So What Next???
See what areas of your life you need to amend so that you’ll stop losing quality friends, acquaintances and destiny helpers. Have a great day.

4 Reasons Why You “Fell Out of Love”

I’ll like to start this post by saying that love is a choice, not a feeling. Unfortunately, Hollywood and the media have propagated love as a feeling (that kind of feeling that grips you and you can’t help but surrender). Feelings are unstable, they are triggered by external stimuli; love is a choice to be affectionate and kind to someone. I’m using the phrase “fell out of love” here to mean the end of a relationship. Breaking up is not always an easy thing – especially when it leaves you wondering why it had to come to an end. But if you understand why it had to come to an end, it becomes easier to go through the healing process. What are these reasons?

The relationship was based solely on feelings
Feelings don’t last forever, they come and go. Feelings are triggered by something: maybe looks, physical traits, kindness, gifts etc. Feelings are not necessarily bad but they cannot be the basis of a relationship because they’re not strong enough to hold it together. The same person making you feel mushy today may also make you feel like strangling them tomorrow. That is why love is not a feeling. So, since the feelings grew cold, and the relationship was based on feelings, it came to an end.

You outgrew each other
For a relationship to last and stand the test of time, both parties must grow individually and grow together. If one party begins to neglect his/her personal growth, it begins to create imbalance. When this happens, instead of growing together, you’re hobbies and preferences begin to change, misunderstanding begins to set in, you no longer blend and you eventually start growing apart.

You no longer match each other
This is sometimes a product of growing apart. Relationships need a degree of compatibility continuously to be able to last (not alikeness, but compatibility). Not every relationship leads to marriage. People start relationships with the intention and hope that it ends in marriage only to discover that they are not compatible and are therefore not suitable for each other. When this happens, the inevitable is a break up because a broken courtship is better than a broken marriage.

The relationship became too toxic
A good relationship is supposed to enhance your life. A toxic relationship, however, ends up poisoning you and your life in many ways. Sometimes, relationships start out well only to become toxic over time. When this happens, the relationship is gradually eroded until it grinds to a halt. To read more about toxic relationships, click here and here

Move on!
Whether the break up was your fault or not, I came to announce to you that it is time to move on with your life. Better days lie ahead of you. Learn from your mistakes, if any. Understand that not every relationship leads to marriage. No matter how you try to force it, if it’s not meant to last, it won’t. Don’t get bitter and angry at life – it will only make you a frustrated and harsh woman which will eventually repel the right man when he comes. Stay joyful, stay focused and trust God to perfect all that concerns you. Enjoy your weekend. xoxo

5 Gifts You Need to Give to Yourself All through 2015

I know the euphoria of the newyear has worn off by now. Some people have even forgotten the theme of the year and all the prophecies that were declared. The year is still young; you may have to revisit where you wrote all those declarations that were made at crossover service and use them to reposition yourself for the year. Anyways, since we’re now in the second half of the year, today I’ll like to open your eyes to a few gifts you need to give yourself for the remaining part of the year. Most of us are good at giving gifts to those we love - forgetting that the bible says love your neighbor as you love yourself –which you need to give gifts to yourself every now and then. So, without much ado, here they are:

Be comfortable in your own skin
It’s easy to wish you were this or that, we all do sometimes. But to consistently harbour such thoughts is toxic to your own well being. It’s just like when your immune system fights against you (i.e an autoimmune disorder). Make a decision to accept yourself and be comfortable in your own skin. Make the most of how you look and be at peace with yourself. Not only will you start to radiate from inside out (yes, confidence is quite attractive), but you will have more zeal for life, a better attitude and keep away depression from your life. Wishing you were someone else is a waste of time and energy; why not live your life and carry yourself in such a way that others begin to wish they were you???

Challenge Yourself
Newton’s first law of motion says that a mass/object remains the same until force is applied to it. Except you begin to challenge yourself, your life will remain the way it is and you will never achieve your dreams. Push yourself, challenge yourself daily. Accept new challenging tasks and responsibilities. Do something you’ve never done before. Whether or not you succeed, your life will not remain the same. You will have acquired fresh knowledge, and new skills/experience; you would have inevitably become a better version of you.

Try Something New
It’s only a mad man, they say, that keeps doing the same thing and expecting to get new results. Try something new this year (new does not mean something nasty or outrageous) – you never know where it will take you. Try doing your regular job/business in a new way. How about diversifying your business into new horizons? Trying something new may also include changing your dress sense and personal fashion style, you know.

Forgive Yourself
Forgive yourself! Forgive yourself!! Forgive yourself!!! Yes, you will get it wrong sometimes and feel like killing yourself for it. But just like you need to forgive others, you need to also forgive yourself when you make mistakes. Self-pity is not healthy. Learn to shake of the dust of mistakes as quick as possible, learn the lessons you can learn and move on.

Take the First Step

I wish I could shout it into your ear and mine because of how important this is. The journey of a thousand miles, they say, begins with one step. Find out the first step to achieving your dreams and take it. Don’t wait for the mountain to go to you, go to the mountain. Don’t wait for opportunities to find you, go out and look for them. No one achieves their dreams or goals by sitting at home 24/7 wishing for them, dreaming about them, or praying for them alone. You need to go out and get them. Moreover, God is willing and able to give you what you go after (See Joshua 1:3).

Can you think of any other gifts we need to give ourselves throughout the year?

Common Misconceptions about Husbands

Hello dear,
The misconceptions I’m about to share with you today are dangerous mindsets that have come to be accepted in some quarters. If you do not delete them from your mind and renew your mind, they will destroy your marriage when you get married eventually.  If you’re already married, you need to use this post as an x-ray to see if these little foxes are part of your mindset so that you can destroy them before they destroy your beautiful marriage. But before I move on, I need you to read this with an open heart so it can fulfill its purpose in your life. As you read, may the scales of tradition, culture and old wives’ fables concerning husbands and marriage be removed from your heart and mind in Jesus name.

#1 – He is an ATM
Yes, it is the husband’s major role to provide for his family but that does not make him an ATM or a money tree you can pluck from at will. Your husband is not ATM that is available to dispense money to you at your beck and call. Even if he were, just like an ATM runs out of cash sometimes and cannot dispense cash, he may sometimes be unable to give you the things you want and desire. Your husband is HUMAN, he is not Jehovah Jireh who makes a way where there seems to be none. He can only perform according to what he has or is able to get per time. Check it out now – even your biological parents were not ATMs; there were times when they couldn’t give you what you wanted for one reason or the other. Instead of going looking to your husband as the sole provider of all your needs, look unto God as your provider and see your husband as one of God’s major channels to supply your needs. When you have this as a perspective, if your husband can’t meet your needs, God will find a way to meet your needs and you will be able to maintain a good attitude while you wait for God’s provision. It will also prevent you from becoming a nag (the thing all men hate) and move you to pray for God’s provision for your husband instead.

#2 – He is a superman
This mindset entails expecting that your husband can’t be affected by the storms and temptations of life. What this does is that it puts you at ease and prevents you from backing you husband up with words of appreciation, affection, encouragement and prayer. It also makes you insensitive to his struggles and your role as his God-given helper. Even if he is a man of God, he is still a man who may struggle with some things sometimes and will need your help, whether he acts like it or not. Delete from your head completely the fact that you’re marrying or married to a superman. Even superman was not always dressed as superman – sometimes he appears as plain old Clark Kent who needs the love of his woman. You are human and will be married to another human. There is no perfect man.

#3 – He shouldn’t make mistakes
This is related to the previous one. I wish I could promise you that your husband would NEVER make mistakes. But baby girl, as spirit filled as he is, as smart and wise as he is, he will make mistakes sometimes, just as you will. Nobody deliberately plans to make mistakes; mistakes are what they are – MISTAKES. In your mind, you may have written a list of things he should do such as: if he loves me, he wouldn’t _________, he should know ________, he should never speak to me in an angry tone etc. Having unrealistic expectations is a recipe for disaster in marriage. If you have such in your head, delete them. They will do you no good. Not sure if the expectations you have are unrealistic? Email me with graceyokoye@yahoo.com and I’ll help you sift through them and show you which ones are unrealistic.

#4 – He is just like me
Hmmmm!!! This is a very deadly misconception. Your husband may have similar hobbies, interests or goals as you, he may even share your beliefs, but he is not like you. Research and experience has proved that men reason differently and see things from a different perspective, compared to women. They have different needs, priorities and expectations even in marriage. That is on a general level. When it comes to individuality, each man is unique and different. It’s just like comparing Japanese cars with a Mercedes Benz: you may not be able to use the spare parts of Japanese cars on a Mercedes Benz without causing damage. In other words, you can’t relate with your husband as you do with your girlfriends. You must not only understand the peculiar differences between men and women, you must also understand the peculiar differences that differentiate your man from other men. For more details, read the book “Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus; it will help you tremendously.

Renew your mind

You can't afford to enter into marriage with misconceptions as your instructors or your cultural history as your coach. Renew your mind. Fill it with the truth from God's word and divinely inspired books on marriage so you can a have a correct view about marriage. It's not enough to find the right man. Prayerfully locate every misconception in your mind about marriage, husbands and your role as a wife, uproot them and replace them with the truth. Romans 12:2 says "do not be conformed to the ways of the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...". An unrenewed mind can destroy a heaven ordained relationship or marriage. A word, they say, is enough for the wise. xoxo

Can you think of any other misconceptions about husbands? Guys in the house, we need your views ooo.
